Winter Solstice

Midwinter festivals have been going on for thousands of years. They celebrate the return of the sun from cold and darkness. Midwinter was a turning point between the Old Year and the New Year. Fire was a symbol of hope and boughs of greenery symbolized the eternal circle of creation. Later, the Roman empire replaced Midwinter festivals with the Christmas celebration. (2)
