American Festival Customs

Leprechaun and three leaf clover decorations are popular.
Green clothes: Many people dress in green. Some bars dye the beer green. This is NOT done in Ireland.
Clover shaped cookies and green cupcakes are available in bakeries for children to take to school parties. Green carnations are sold.
Seamróg (pron. sham-RAWK) is known as the shamrock in the USA. They are flown in for the holiday from Ireland. The clovers are put on the windowsill or worn.
Mint milkshakes called Shamrock shakes are available at McDonalds fast-food restaurants.
All people, regardless of nationality, are encouraged to be Irish for the day. (1, 10)
